Wedding Wednesday!

I am very excited today because Shaun and I are going to tour our number one choice for venue!

Old Wide Awake Plantation

Originally we had discussed a wedding date of Sunday, April 13, 2014, but changed it to April 6 due to our upcoming move. We thought this would give us more time to visit family after the wedding and before our move to Hawaii.

After calling around to local hotels over the past few days, I am quickly finding that April 6 was not a very good choice. The Cooper River Bridge Run is the same day and it is the biggest event in Charleston. I haven't been having very much luck finding a block of hotel rooms for our out-of-town guest, most places have nothing available.

Last night, we discussed changing the date back to April 13th or even the weekend before, March 30. We have told some people April 6, but we haven't sent out save-the-dates yet or signed any contracts.

What would y'all do? The cheapest hotel room I've been able to find so far ranges from $179-$199 (WITH a group discount!) Since we already have so many guests coming from out-of-state, I feel like this would deter them from coming even more :(

We plan to talk to the event coordinator at the venue tonight to get her opinion.

Any suggestions are welcome!

I dont think that that hotel cost is too much...but maybe I'm jaded from living in NYC for so long!!! Beautiful spot.

CHANGE IT!! Girl, you know Chas and that weekend will be crazy! Not for the hotel cot, but traffic and stress of all that! IMO :-)

I'm pretty partial to March 30th. :) Don't do it the weekend of the Bridge Run, trust me. That's also the same weekend as the Azalea Festival in Summerville.

I think March 30 would be just as wonderful - not to mention save everyone a pretty penny or two :) So excited for you all!!!

I would change it. Maybe call some venues and hotels to get quotes and availability before you pick a definite date.

I would go with changing it, especially if you are not OMG I HAVE TO HAVE X DATE! We tossed around back to back weekends and ended up picking our date so a groomsmen who had planned a vac for the other could be in our wedding

I think it's still far out enough that the people who you gave the date to, might not even notice the change. It's only a week!
That venue is gorgeous! I hope the tour goes well!

I would go for March 30th myself. Don't let this be a stressor. In the end, the people that love you most will travel to be there. My wedding was 17 hours from my hometown. People still came. It meant the world to me when they did!

I LOVE your new blog design [did you pay someone to do it or do it yourself?]. I LOVE that you're a Southern Bride Blogger. I also LOVE that I'm a bridesmaid =]. I guess I should say something about this post... lol. LOVE the venue and I'm down for either date. Love you!

That's a gorgeous venue but the price for a nearby hotel... ouch!

we had a march wedding (rather than our planned nov one, thanks AF! lol.) i highly recommend it! if i had to travel out of town for a wedding, especially with the husband, i'd be hard-pressed to want to shell out $200 just on the hotel. and if that weekend will be crazy already, it will probably be better for all to have a less hectic timeframe.

I think I would change it to a less busy weekend. Maybe the weekend in March so you'll have more time to enjoy Charleston before you leave? On another piece of wedding advice, have you thought about your dress yet?

I agree with everyone's thoughts on March 30th not only because it might be easier for your guests, but then you won't have as much to stress about (hopefully!). Have fun planning!!

I would move the date. Cooper River Bridge run in insane. You and your guests would probably enjoy the weekend much more without a million more tourists in the city.

I'd move the date.. I tried not to leave my neighborhood the weekend of the Bridge Run last year. It's not worth the stress you'll be dealing with having such a special event the same weekend as that.
