Tuesday Update!

I'm soo excited because my friend Kim and her boyfriend Brandon are coming down to visit tonight and tomorrow! Kim's fam vacay's in Myrtle Beach every year and since that is just a couple hours away, they have decided to take some time and come down to Charleston to visit. I've only had two friends come down to visit me since I moved over a year and a half ago, so needless to say, I am super excited!

I was actually really digging my curly hair this day. It can be so unruly that I used to hate it so much. Luckily it can make getting ready in the morning a lot faster. By adding a little spray gel, add a little heat and humidity, bam! 2 minute syle.



Got some quality time in at Folly. My friend Christian's parents were down visiting from CT and they rented the same beach house that they rented last year. It's so cute, I love it!

After the beach, we went to Taco Boy, one of our fav places to eat.

This is another one of my extra appearances on Army Wives :D I actually got some face time in this episode. It is Season 6, Episode 16 I believe.

I've been on a HUGE fruit kick lately and the selection at Publix has been awesome.

I also recently started volunteering at Fleet & Family on the Naval Weapons Station here in Charleston.

I emailed Kim a list of restaurants that we like to eat at here in Charleston so she could take a look at the menus/prices. She said that she would leave it up to us where we went for dinner since we know our way around all the local places. So far the choices are Magnolia, Blossom, 82 Queen, Coast, Poogan's Porch, and Amen Street. I will be sure to let y'all know where we end up choosing and I'll post my review. I've actually been to all these places already and some of them are kind of touristy, but they still have great food and capture that Southern Hospitality.

Happy Monday!

I'm having mixed feelings about this Monday so far. It started off badly because a) its Monday. S and I had a little tiff over the weekend and although it all turned out just find, he called me this morning to tell me that he's been beating himself up over it all morning and that he feels bad and apologized again and again. It makes me feel good to know that he realizes his mistakes and I'm so glad that we can talk things out. Unfortunately, as I was on the phone with him having this conversation (we were both at work), my boss proceeds to come into my cubicle and stand next to me looking over a couple contracts that I left for her on my desk. Now, if you saw that someone was on a phone call and you can clearly see that they only have a little 6x6 cube of space to themselves, what makes you think that it is okay to stand over them while they are on a phone call???!!??!?! OMG. I'm so done trying to justify her behavior and pretend like everything is okay. I.am.so.over.it.

Note: I'm sorry, I try to keep everything in my blog very upbeat, but I was just astonished at this behavior. I was seriously on the verge of writing her a very nasty email about personal space, but I decided I would rather not fuel the fire. She is a nasty person as it is and she doesn't need anything, especially in writing, to use against me. Instead, I will use it to fuel my fire in getting a new job.

Which leads me to two new and exciting things! First, I have an interview at the Citadel (Military College of South Carolina), for Admissions Counselor on Wednesay, YAY! PRAY FOR ME. Haha, I need it! Although I think it will be a great seeing as to how I have worked in Admissions at two different colleges and am working at a third right now :)

Second: I had a meeting today with the Volunteer Coordinator at the Fleet & Family Support Center to talk about volunteer opporunities. I've thought about getting involved in with volunteering in the past, but never really did anything about it. But, since I am on the hunt for a new jobby job, I decided what better time to get involved? I know it will look kick-ass on my resume and it will be a great way to learn about Navy life. To make a long story short, I accidentally emailed the Volunteer Coordinator's boss's boss and she saw to it that I got contacted haha. Oops! I so did not mean to do that, I was literally just looking for someone, anyyyyone who I thought might be able to help me learn about volunteer opportunities.

Erin, the VC, said that they don't normally invite significant others in unless they are spouses, but they do make exceptions and apparently I am an exception! I am okay with that. Since I have both my bachelor's and master's degrees and a background in Higher Education, she was very interested in my background and very happy to meet with me. She also mentioned that the woman who oversees their Education and Scholarship area had an assistant who JUST retired this year and she said that she was going to pass my information and resume on to her. Score! She said that she is pretty sure that they are looking to bring in 2 people, but she wasn't making any promises. I am okay with that, but wow! How nice of her to think of me for that! I would absolutely love to work on base, that would be super convenient and a great way to get my foot in the door for the future.

She also said that it is good to get involved because although the FFCC has a very small staff, they do tend to hire their volunteers or recommend them for employement in other areas on base. She also invited me to come to Military Spouse 101 in a couple weeks to learn about all the services offered to families on base. I really couldn't believe how nice this woman was to me. I really wasn't sure how I would be treated since I am not officially a spouse.

SO that has been my day so far. We had a little bit of a rough weekend, but it has all been smoothed out by now. Here are a few pics that highlight the funner parts ;)

We floated down the Edisto River on Satuday for a friend's birthday. There are no rapids and its actually very shallow in some parts yet over our heads in others. It was a really fun, beautiful day. This is was South Carolinians do for fun :p

Kentucky for the weekend!

Checking in from th U.S. Naval Weapons Station, waiting for S to get off work. From here, we are driving up to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky to see his mamaw and papaw for the weekend. It's his papaw's 80th birthday next week and his whole family will be in town to celebrate.

Fast-Forward to today.

Monday, February 27, 2012:
I am exhausted after our whirlwind trip to Kentucky. It took us 7 hours to get there and 7 hours to get back. We were only actually there for about 36 hours. It was worth it though. We had a really nice, "surprise" birthday party for papaw, catered with typical Southern cuisine that included fried chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, mac n cheese, cole slaw, biscuits, etc., etc., etc. I also love when his mamaw makes eggs and biscuits & gravy for breakfast. I love that Southern food, however, I feel like all the working out I did last week was completely negated. Time to get back on track!

In Charleston, there is so much to do that is based around eating and drinking, I am finding it very hard to lose weight these days. A couple weekends ago was the Lowcountry Oyster Festival, which I believe is the largest oyster festival in the country and this weekend we are going to be attending the Charleston Wine & Food Festival. If you are ever stationed here in Charleston, you will never run out of things to do. I will save my Charleston "must-do" and "to-do" lists for another day!

So as I mentioned, we had a 7 hour dirve, both ways and one of the things I love about driving in the car with S is that we always manage to entertain ourselves for that long without any music. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge music-lover, but we always have so much to talk about that we didn't need to resort to that. We talked a lot more about the future; where we might end up, where we would like to end up, and what it would be like for me. I told him that I am really nervous because he is always telling me that Navy wives can be such terrible people sometimes (I think this is just coming from his past experience). I believe that there MUST be some normal girls out there, that one day, I will be able to relate to and become friends with. He said that they are not all that bad and it is a good support system. I was starting to get really nervous thinking that if we end up somewhere far away, I'm not going to have anyone to be friends with! He assured me that would not be true and that it would be really hard to get homesick living somewhere like Hawaii. I think that no matter what, my first instinct is going to be to try and find a job on base. I want to work with the Sailors and their families anyway, and work would be a good distraction for me. Although when I asked him what I would do if we moved to Hawaii, he replied with, "just hang out" or "you could just surf all day". Oh geez...

One perk that he told me about this weekend is that, at times, when he is underway and gets word that they will be pulling into a foreign port (ie. Italy), he would be able to let me know to buy a plane ticket and meet him there. I was not expecting that, but how amazing! Apparently, he has had friends on the boat that have done that before with their wives. I guess I better get over my fear of flying because something like that is not going to be a short flight!

Okay, I am cutting this post off right here as it is quite a bit longer than I had intended. I could go on to write a storybook sometimes.
