InstaTuesday!

Hey y'all, sorry I've been a little MIA since last week. Even though I've been feeling better, I've had this headache that just won't subside. It comes and goes all day long and makes me want to do nothing but lay down with a pillow over my eyes :( Anyway, today has been a little better which is a good thing because I have lots to do before we leave for Kentucky tomorrow!

Weekend update: Friday night, we didn't do too much, just stayed home and made a yummy din with shrimp cocktail and pork tenderloin on the grill. We vegged out at home for the night because we had planned on getting up on Saturday morning to head up to the lake for the day/night. It was a beaUTiful day so we rigged up the Ranger and took her out.

It was a REALLY windy day on Saturday so the lake was pretty choppy (it's a huge lake, btw). I had been out on the boat before when it was choppy like that, but this weekend was the first time I ever got sick from it! I had gone down in the cabin to get my phone out so I could take some pictures and when I came back out, I started to get a headache. Shortly after that, I started to get reallyyyy nauseous and it went downhill from there. I was trying so hard to not get sick and begged S to take us back to shore. Luckily since we were planning to stay the night and had rented a cabin, I went and laid down for about an hour and napped. That was the only thing that was going to make me feel better. It was such a bummer. The boys took the sailboat back out for an evening sail (3 dudes = so romantic) and even though the lake had calmed down a lot, I just didn't want to chance it. So I stayed behind and baked them cookies :)

Sunset on the lake..

I didn't sleep that well on Saturday night in the cabin for some reason so Sunday was kind of rough. I had wanted to go to Boone Hall Plantation to pick out pumpkins and do the corn maze, but I just lost all motivation and we ended up staying home all day and watching football.

Since we weren't planning on going anywhere, I decided to make a crock pot meal and try out a new recipe for Chicken & Dumplings. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures, but here is the recipe that I found on Pinterest.

It.was.awesome. S has a collection of recipes from his mamaw, but hers uses an awful lot of Crisco so I decided to try this one out. He LOVED it. I wouldn't change anything about this recipe, it came out perfect. I got a little nervous before I put the dough in for the dumplings that it might come out to watery. No worries though, as soon as the dumplings cooked a bit, it thickened right up. I highly recommend it!

Yesterday was a typical Monday. S was supposed to have a softball game, but it got cancelled. I was supposed to work out, but got lazy again. I was also feeling a little overwhelmed thinking about all the things I needed to do before we leave tomorrow. So as if I'm not feeling overwhelmed enough, let's add another Pinterest recipe to the mix. Last night I decided to try out another one called Spicy New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. They are not lying when it says SPICY!! We love spicy, so it was okay, but our mouths were on fire (in a good way).

Here is the picture from the recipe.

And here is my picture!

I was pretty impressed with myself, I'm not going to lie. I followed the recipe exactly and found that I probably could've used a little more sauce so I added a little more olive oil/chili sauce/worchestire/hot sauce/etc. until I felt that I had enough (not a whole lot more of each). I also didn't refrigerate 4-24 hours like the recipe suggested because let's be honest, who has time for that? I think it came out just fine. I also made New Orleans yellow rice to go with it and crusty french bread like the recipe calls for :)

S was pretty impressed and proud of me for trying some new recipes. I think we'll have to add these into the regular rotation as they are both fairly easy (especially the crock pot recipe) and I can't wait to try out some more!

Does anyone have any favorite recipes that they have made recently or found on Pinterest???

Weekend Update!

Happy Monday, yall! I know, it's not my favorite day of the week either.

Here is a little re-cap of our weekend :)

Friday:

Friday, September 7, was the United Way's Day of Caring. I didn't really officially participate, but I still volunteered. S is a part of the 1st Class Petty Officers Association on base and they put on a big picnic for all of the students and staff the volunteered that day. I told him that I wanted to come help out at the picnic so him and I grilled up hamburgers all afternoon. It started downpour about halfway through, but we still had a great time.

Serving those who serve our country :)

Double rainbow after the rain!

On my way home.

Later on that night, S promised me a "Kelly-movie date night), where I actually get to pick the movie that we watch haha. We alwayssss watch what S wants and I'm over it so he finally let me pick. I of course, picked The Lucky One. And how lucky was S to get to watch that with me??! Lol, he was not as enthusiastic about the pick, but I think he still secretly enjoyed it. He is not terribly opposed to watching chick-flicks, it just takes a little coercing ;)

We also had an awesome dinner....I had pan-seared scallops (my fav!) and he had a steak. I don't know if it was from all the good food or just being super tired from the week, but I didn't even make it through the movie (S did, however.....) How pathetic, I missed the ending hah.

Saturday:

We went up to Lake Moultrie again and went sailing, one of my favorite things to do on the weekend. S had to teach a student on the kiel boat in the morning then we went out on a little leisurely sail in the afternoon. On the way home, we stopped a couple's house that we are friends with for a cookout and poker night.

Perfect day for sailing!

Sunday:

Slept in, went food shopping, did some laundry, made awesome mahi tacos for dinner (S's favorite) and watched some football. Overall it was a pretty good weekend. How was everyone else's weekend??? :)

Thursday Seconds...

So I decided that since I'm still at work and I'm still bored, I am going to write a second post for today!

First, I am excited to say that I found a new blog-friend who also lives in Charleston. Her name is Lindsey and you can check her blog out here :) She is super cute and her hubby is in the Navy as well. They are also expecting their first little bundle of joy.

Next, I decided that I was going to surprise S today by getting my haircut. I didn't want him to know so I scheduled my appointment over my lunchbreak so he would have no idea. Maybe I didn't quite explain myself while I was there, but my hair doesn't look a whole lot different so we'll see if he even notices hah. I kind of don't like when my hairdresser styles my hair and I usually can't want to get home, wash it, and style it myself. So, once I do that, I will post before and after pics.

Next, I am really excited for this weekend. Tomorrow, I am volunteering on base at the 'Day of Caring' picnic with S and the 1st Class Petty Officers' Association. I love volunteering on base. It looks like it's going to be another hot one...when will it ever cool off in SC??? S also has a softball game tomorrow evening and then we are off to the lake again on Saturday. S has to teach sailing in the morning and since he found out that he doesn't have a softball game in the afternoon, we are free to take the Catalina out for the rest of the day :D

I'm a big fan of sailing....when there is wind. On a calm, blazing hot day? Not so fun.

While my friend Laura was here on Tuesday, we did some shopping downtown and I added a few more things to my fall wish list. I have included them below :)

I already bought these Kadiee flats from Steve Madden and got a great deal. They were already on sale then today, there was a coupon code for an additional 30% off!

I'm dying to get these boots, however, I have a really nice pair of Coach riding boots that I hardly wore last fall/winter because it was just never that cold. It still can't hurt to have another pair or two thought, right? These are Steve Madden and you can find them here.

And these, too! These are called Lainie and are by Born and you can find them here.

We stopped by Gap and it is always hit or miss for me there lately. I used to LOVE shopping at the Gap, but I think they changed designers because their stuff just isn't like it used to be. I did however find a few things that I think are going to have to find their way into my closet asap.

I need a cute denim skirt (to wear with above denim boots)!

And last, but not least...I am obsessed with stripes and I am definitely going to invest in both of these tops :)

This top actually has patches on the elbows that you can't see in this pic, cute!

And, one more thing...I lied ;) I heart this jacket. It looks so soft, comfy, and warm!

And that concludes my second post and it is time to go home and see my love yay! Have a good evening yall!

Wednesday Weekend Update!

This past weekend, we headed up to Lake Moultrie for some sailing. It was absolutely perfect weather, mid-80's and low humidity. S had to teach the practical portion of the Navy sailing course in the morning then him and I took the Ranger out by ourselves in the afternoon. It was a great day full of sun (maybe a little too much though, should've worn sunscreen) and sailing :) Here are some pics from our day.

S with his students in the morning.

The other sailing instructor took out his personal boat to teach the staff members.

Beautiful day!

Me at the helm! A little blurry, but you get the picture (no pun intended!)

My love! So handsome<3

We headed home from the lake, which is about 45 min. away, so S decided to bring me through the base to see "Charlie", this massive gator that lives in a fenced in area. I didn't get any pictures of Charlie, but I did get a shot of this smaller gator. There was a teenie little baby swimming around this one, but you can't see it in the picture.

For those of you who live in the South or Southeast, you would know that Hurricane Isaac is making it's way through our area. It didn't even really come close to hitting Charleston, however, we did get quite a bit of rain yesterday which caused some bad flooding downtown. Fun fact - downtown Charleston was built BELOW sea level so everytime we get some bad rain, it floods. I don't know who's brilliant idea that was! Here are some pics that peeps were posting of downtown yesterday. And yes, those are people kayaking through the Market.

This really is just kind of disgusting considering how dirty those streets probably are. I hope those two took a good shower afterward!

We are headed to the NC mountains for the holiday weekend to spend time with S's family. What do y'all have planned for Labor Day???
